Kolam Patterns

Kolams are drawn in the puja/prayer room niche and also at the doorstep of the main entrance of traditional South Indian homes.

Took pictures of only those kolams which came out reasonably well.

All are free hand, etched on black granite stone, with a white chalk, which is pre-soaked in water for a few seconds for that stunning effect.  Patterns are not pre-planned.  Whatever i visualize at the moment, takes shape as the kolam for the day.

Some designs may be improvements of what i may have glanced in passing on the grills of doors or windows while travelling, provided i was able to recall them to some extent! There’s this advantage i can take with free hand is the liberty to sketch anything i fancy.

Sharing some here.
